Calling All African Screenwriters!
If you are an African Screenwriter, you can apply for the AuthenticA Series Lab Programme. This is an opportunity for screenwriters to showcase an African-focused story. It is presented by Realness Institute, in partnership with The StoryBoard Collective, a Swiss philanthropic organisation. The AuthenticA application period has been extended to the 24th of May 2022 and is a six-month programme for African screenwriters. It will consist of online and in-person sessions (in South Africa and Switzerland), as well as a 1000 EUR monthly stipend for the four participants that are chosen.
To apply, you simply need to be an African national above 18 years of age, with experience in either film or television. Your story concept must be set in Africa and the language of the produced work must be English and/or one of your local languages. You must also be able to communicate in English since the programme will be delivered in English. You also have to be able to commit two days in South Africa and two months in Switzerland.
We need to mention that applicants are required to pay a 500 ZAR application fee, either via PayPal or credit card, and the deadline is only until 17:00 Central African Time (CAT) on May 24th. We know that most people are not usually fans of application fees (we definitely prefer free competitions and opportunities, too), however if you are chosen, it is a great opportunity to hone your screenwriting skills and tell your story. So, if screenwriting is your field and you have 500 Rand to spare, this may be of interest to you.
