Remotasks
No more Remotasks for some African countries
I recently decided to try out Remotasks again after taking a hiatus from using it for a while. (If you don’t know what Remotasks is, you can read THIS ARTICLE for a full breakdown). I wanted to know if it had improved in terms of payouts and/or tasks. But when I tried to login with my original account, which I opened from Zimbabwe, I was surprised to see a notice from Remotasks stating that it was not able to provide service in my location. After further research, I found out that Remotasks is no longer available in certain African countries. Several countries, including Zimbabwe, had been excluded from performing tasks on Remotasks. And apparently this has been the case for months. Other countries on the excluded list are Kenya, Nigeria, and some non-African countries like Pakistan.

What’s the reason for the exit?
I’m not sure why Remotasks made this move but it was highly disappointing. I never really made a lot of money from Remotasks, to be fair, but it was a nice way to make a little pocket money at the time I was using it. That being the case, I decided to try and hold onto the little extra income by using a VPN, which worked to get me to the login page and allowed me to request a password reset since I had forgotten my password. Remotasks informed me that they would be sending me my new password login details via my registered email address but it’s been a few days and…the email never came. So, I’m guessing they spotted my country of registration and didn’t bother sending the login details for that reason.
Third World Problems
The departure of Remotasks from Zimbabwe and other countries is yet another annoying reminder of the third world country problem and how your location can either make or break your online money-making aspirations…if you allow it to. It is frustrating, especially since the reason behind them excluding certain countries isn’t exactly clear. Hopefully, we’ll have another disruptive company coming in to provide these kinds of online money-making services to a broader range of countries and not just the first world ones. For now, the hunt for side hustles that actually work continues.
