Du Plessis vs Adesanya

In a true African battle, Dricus Du Plessis and Israel Adesanya went at it this weekend at UFC 305 that took place in Perth, Australia. It was South Africa versus Nigeria in the title fight for Middleweight champion. If you haven’t heard yet, Du Plessis was the victor in the end. The South African successfully defended his title through a rear naked choke, causing Adesanya to tap out. Though I have to give The Last Stylebender credit because he was a really strong contender throughout the fight.

It was extremely entertaining and a great watch, especially for us neutrals who were just glad to see two African countries being represented in a global octagon for a major title fight. The continent gets a win for that.
Du Plessis kept his focus, even though the Perth crowd wasn’t exactly on his side and were leaning more in support of Adesanya. But, Du Plessis always being a class act, thanked the crowd after the fight regardless.
The two fighters exchanged kind compliments after the fight.
The two fighters had been at each other’s throats for a while before this fight and there had been quite a lot of tension. But in the end, they exchanged compliments, gave each other credit where it’s due, and hugged it out. It was a very gracious end, on both sides, to an exciting title fight.
With Du Plessis having won, and held onto the title, it looks like his next fight might be in South Africa, given Dana White’s promise during a press conference. So if you’re a UFC fan in Africa, you might want to start saving for that trip.
