According to Elon Musk, there has been a cyber attack made on the X system. The Billionaire stated that, although attacks on the system are nothing new, this recent cyber attack is massive in nature and must have required above-average resources. Reports are that there have been at least 3 waves of cyber attacks throughout the day (the 10th of March 2025) that affected thousands of users, causing them to face login troubles. Musk gave a statement as below:
“There was (still is) a massive cyberattack against X. We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources. Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved.”
On Fox Business News, Musk further stated, “We’re not sure exactly what happened but there was a massive cyber attack to try to bring down the X system.”
Thoughts on the X cyber attack
He made some further statements as to where he believes the attack stemmed from but that would delve into a world of politics that we have no intention of entering. We will, however, take the opportunity to remind social media users, and specifically those with large followings or who make money from their accounts, that you need to be able to pivot from your social media endeavours. Much like the TikTok ban, this is a reminder that you have no control over your social media accounts. Not really. These random shutdowns, bans, and attacks should make you want to diversify your personal and business social media usage. And it should also serve as a reminder that being active online always leaves room for issues like this. The frustration of not being able to access your own accounts should be enough to remind you of the fact that your general cyber safety is always at risk, especially if a major, well-funded application like X can be affected by hackers and attackers.
Were you affected by the X cyber attack or did you find your account intact through all the chaos?
